Description On a late summer evening, the sunset offers spectacular colours that make the landscape magical. This adds to the magic of Lake Zbeh, in the municipality of the same name in the Olomouc region. When there is no wind, the lake becomes a mirror reflecting the surrounding landscape. On a mid-August evening, a foreign train is reflected in the lake, pulled by locomotive 361 number 124 of the Slovak Railways ZSSK. It is operating the EuroCity 122, nicknamed Valask expres, which connects the Slovak town of Pchov with the Czech capital Prague.The 361 locomotives are derived from their older sisters, the 163, produced in the 1980s by koda Plze. In 2009, 163 053 was taken as a prototype, completely dismantled and reassembled with more modern and efficient components. The only original parts retained were the body and modified bogies, including the traction motors and braking system. This is how 361 number 001 was born, photographed by me in June in Poprad. The new 361s not only gave the 163s a longer life, but now allowed them to travel at up to 160 km/h and to operate not only with 3 kV DC, but also with 25 kV AC.
